"Tactical One" Advanced Handgun Course

$145.00 per person, paid in full, in advance

Completion of the CCW course was your first step in learning what is involved in the art of the handgun defense. Unfortunately, most people stop there. We have to be ready and prepared physically and mentally for a potential attack while carrying a concealed firearm.

Shooting is an acquired skill which will perish with time. To become and remain proficient, you must devote time, practice, and reasonably serious study. This course is designed to teach you how to move with balance, and how to properly handle and fire your handgun while on the move. We will develop the marksmanship skills needed for defensive hand gunning through dry-practice and live-fire drills.

There will also be an introduction to one-handed shooting. Most of the shooting for this course will be with two hands. For the entirety of this course, we will be working from an open holster (not concealed.) At the end of this 7-hour course we will have covered:

  • Firearms Safety Briefing, including Range Safety and Commands

  • Dry-fire Practice (How to Draw and fire from the holster)

  • Modes of Readiness

  • Proper Firearms Handling

  • Principles of Personal Defense

  • Introduction to Tactics

  • Introduction to Movement

  • Shooting While Moving

  • Multiple Shots on a Single Assailant

  • Multiple Shots on Multiple Assailants

  • Cover and Concealment

  • Skill Builders Drills (Courses of Fire)

Eligibility Requirements

This course is NOT designed to teach beginners how to shoot. You must already know how to handle and shoot your firearm safely and accurately. All participants MUST have successfully passed a CCW course OR other professionally taught handgun training course. An NRA Basic Pistol, and most other professional handgun training will suffice. Your daddy teaching you how to shoot squirrels as a young'un will not satisfy this requirement.

You must be physically capable of performing the movement drills - forward, back, and side to side in unison with the rest of the line of students. These drills are performed at a walking pace, and are not strength or stamina intensive. There's no running or jumping required. They do require concentration, focus, and coordination. Above all, total adherence to safety.

The overall pace of the 7-hour course is at a medium, steady speed, with many repetitions and breaks to reload mags and review material. For many of the exercises, you will work in teams of two. Women are encouraged to attend this course.

Equipment Requirements*

  • Proof of Prior Training (former SFT CCW students automatically accepted)

  • Modern Semi-Auto Handgun  (PREFERRED)  in caliber .380 or better

  • Strong side belt mounted holster (no "cross draw" rigs of any sort)

  • Magazine helper loaders (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED)

  • Speed loader (revolver shooters) such as HKS or Safari brand.

  • Magazine Pouch to hold your spare magazine. Nothing fancy, just solid.
