Sometimes a quote or a thought that you run across is so insightful and profound that you feel compelled to save it, and to share it with others.  Such is the case with Stefan Molyneux and his thoughts about gun control:

If you are for gun control, then you are not against guns, because the guns will be needed to disarm people. So it’s not that you are anti-gun. You’ll need the police’s guns to take away other people’s guns. So you’re very pro-gun; you just believe that only the Government (which is, of course, so reliable, honest, moral and virtuous…) should be allowed to have guns. There is no such thing as gun control. There is only centralizing gun ownership in the hands of a small political elite and their minions.”

Ever try to deliberately argue a viewpoint to which you are intellectually and diametrically opposed?  Sometimes I try to role play a strident, gun control advocate in order to argue against my own pro-gun mindset. Much like playing chess against yourself, it is nearly impossible to do. Molyneux ‘s statement has six sentences and they flow together perfectly. Using my best critical thinking skills I cannot come up with a single rational counterpoint to his statement.

One could easily continue the paragraph, starting with a caution about the ugly and harsh realities of living in a strictly controlled police state. Sadly, those who are working toward the disarmament of peaceful American citizens are simultaneously and inversely working to empower a few elite people who can  NEVER be trusted with a monopoly on power and control of our lives. That is a police state, dear gun grabbers. In their quest for disarmament are they acting out of ignorance or malice? Neither motivation is useful or acceptable in helping to maintain a peaceful society and a free country. Vladimir Lenin called such people “useful idiots.” What shame that they do not learn from history. In fact, they are stubbornly closing their ears and eyes to the crucially important lessons that past generations learned the hard way.

So, as to the title of this news blog – who should be able to own guns? Every peaceful, law-abiding  person, that’s who. There are other exceptions (see the text of the Gun Control Act of 1968), but these have been hashed out now for decades.
